FromCharmed Events Group… Amber and Joel first met at Santa Clara University as friends and fell into becoming lovers. They were engaged in Tuscany so for their wedding day, they wanted the guests to feel like they were transported to Tuscany. Amber and Joel have such a romantic and sweet sense of style that translated into the experience that they wanted their guests to enjoy, which was the feeling of being at a fabulously, understated dinner party. In terms of the style and aesthetic of the day, it was really important to Amber that everything had a really natural and organic feel to it with lots of rustic elements to bring guests into the magic of Tuscany. The color palette that we used was fresh greens, whites, cremes and hints of dusty blues/greys. If there were a theme that we were going with, it was Tuscany, olive branches, and more olive branches!

No details were overlooked for their wedding. To start, guests received beautiful save the dates that Jen Huang hand painted of their venue, followed by a beautiful watercolored invitation full of olive leaves and foliage that set the tone for the wedding day to come.

For the ceremony, guests were welcomed to the Oval Garden of Villa Montalvo which was a reflection of Italy with its marble statues and columns. Natalie B did an amazing job of creating a beautiful garland of natural foliage to adorn the ceremony altar that we created.

For cocktail hour, guests were welcomed to the Spanish Court where they were able to enjoy signature cocktails such as the Tuscan Lavender and Blackberry Whiskey Smashes while enjoying the beautiful Spanish Court and beautiful floral garlands that lined the stairwells to the court. Amber and Joel wanted guests to take home a little of Tuscany with them so little jars that were dip dyed in dusty lavender hues with an assortment of fresh herbs inspired by Tuscany, was their take away with beautiful escort tags created by Feast Calligraphy.

We had a vision of creating really long rows of farm tables to create the intimate dining experience of Tuscany and that’s exactly what we did. It was perfectly accented by lush garlands of olive leaves and branches created by Natalie Bowen Designs. Each guest place setting was thoughtfully created with the help of beautiful china and glassware from Frances Lane and we had an assortment of foliage to accent each guest place setting. Beautifully hand lettered menus finished with letterpress and Italian fine paper greeted guests as they sat down. Table numbers were hand painted by our team with a translation of each number in Italian. To finish, a gorgeous cake adorned with olive leaves and branches, created by Pretty Please SF, completed the reception.

Girl Scout Summer Camp Wedding Inspiration

Girl Scout Camp Inspiration

If you + your fiancé are kids at heart, perhaps you’ll want to bring a little bit of that lightheartedness into your day! We love how the team from today’s fun styled shoot, inspired by Summer Camp and Boy/Girl Scouting used that as the premise for some beautiful + unique wedding ideas. Designer, Mary Elise Rees, teamed up with photographer, Laura Harris, and florist, Colie Collen, to bring to life a classic Girl Scout Camp scene, but there was a twist – there always is! They wanted to add a modern touch to the setting, and one of the easiest, and most stylish, ways to do just that was with the bridal party fashion. Instead of traditional or matching dresses, the bridesmaids each wore olive green jumpsuits + in lieu of suits or tuxes, the groomsmen got to rock plaid dress shirts! We love that aspect just as much as we do the handmade, locally-sourced details, like the lush flowers, the arrow ceremony backdrop + the hand-painted topography-inspired napkins you’ll see below!

Creative Video Save the Date

When it comes to ah-dorable Save the Dates, this California duo is on point. Sharing their contagiously happy, heartfelt beginning, it’s one love story that’ll have you holding back happy tears. From a teary-eyed proposal, to some unbelievable imagery a la Daniel Lee, this video save-the-date is an idea you’ll want to steal for yourself. Watch it all below!

From Daniel LeeEugenia & Allen, who are good friends of mine from college, asked me to do their video to send out for their Save-the-Date, and I gladly said yes. I wanted to work with them not just because were they good friends, but they had a lifestyle that made me excited to capture and to display. With Allen, who surfs, and Eugenia, who gets a lot of her inspiration for creative work from the many beaches of San Diego, especially at Windansea Beach in La Jolla, we knew this had to be one of the spots to shoot. With that, we had an amazing time shooting at these 3 different and unique locations for their upcoming wedding.

Intimate Lighthouse Wedding on the Coast of Maine

Most of us here at SMP call New England home, so this Maine “I do” captured by Sarah Der feels like an ode to our favorite place. Starting with a few peeks into their lobster bake welcome dinner and ending with a darling reception by the sea, this couple nailed the nautical vibe thanks to Emily Elizabeth Events with a Labor Day celebration we’d all die to attend. Follow me to The Vault, and see why a lighthouse ceremony is our new favorite idea.

From The Bride… Throughout our nine-year relationship, the sea has been a constant theme for us. When Colin proposed on the water, we knew we would marry on the coast. Colin’s parents got married at a lighthouse, and we both loved the idea. I grew up spending summers in Maine at my grandparent’s lakeside cabin, and spent countless summer days as a kid climbing around the rocky coast at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Since Maine is such a special place to me and my family, a wedding at the lighthouse in Pemaquid, Maine was an easy decision.

We decided to make a long weekend out of it and planned our wedding for Labor Day weekend. We kept the guest list intimate, to 50 of our closest family and friends. We fully embraced the spirit of the location, and planned our wedding weekend as an extension of the relaxed, romantic essence that the rocky coast of Maine so naturally inspires. To welcome our guests to Maine, we had a traditional lobster bake, held outdoors on the lawn of The Bradley Inn. The welcome event featured classic red and white checked tablecloths, fresh Maine lobsters, local beer, lawn games, and an ice cream sundae bar with fun toppings and our favorite local ice cream from Round Top Ice Cream Stand.

The following day, we had a casual and intimate seaside ceremony at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. The ceremony was very special to us. We included new and old traditions – we played my mom’s favorite song, “Ashokan Farewell,” in our prelude; I had stephanotis flowers incorporated into my bouquet and my flower crown, a family tradition for several generations; and my oldest friend read our most treasured childhood poem, “The Owl and the Pussycat.” Our favorite part of the ceremony was the ring warming – before the ring exchange, our rings were passed to our assembled family and friends, who were invited to offer prayers, well-wishes, and positive vibes to the rings, and by extension to our marriage. As we walked down the aisle as husband and wife, guests waved “Hooray!” flags that I made. I will always vividly remember the happy faces of our closest loved ones waving those sweet flags.

Our reception was held at a local lobster shack, The Contented Sole. At cocktail hour, guests enjoyed Maine-inspired signature cocktails, a Blueberry Mojito and a Sea Breeze, on the dock overlooking Pemaquid Harbor, while a local fiddle player and guitarist played our favorite folk music. We joke that our reception was “lobster shack chic,” fully embracing the informal attitude and natural coastal beauty of Maine. Decor included nautical coastal elements, rustic farm tables, and wildflowers. We had lobster rolls and frites, and wild Maine blueberry pie for dessert. After dinner, we all had a blast do-si-doing to a local bluegrass band. My adorable grandfather – who has won local farm show ribbons for his fabulous jams – made big batches of blueberry jam, which we offered as favors. Every detail of our wedding held special meaning for us, and many of the DIY elements were a collaboration among many people who were thrilled to contribute to our special day.

We were also thankful that we hired a local wedding coordinator. Especially since we live in New York, it was so helpful to have someone familiar with the location, who came a list of vetted, trusted vendors and experience with the Midcoast Maine wedding scene. Having our wedding coordinator with us throughout the weekend was one of the reasons that our entire wedding weekend was joyful and stress-free, and my best advice to future brides is to build a wedding coordinator into your wedding budget if at all possible.
