A Glamorous Destination Affair with Stunning Views of the Amalfi Coast

I’m pretty sure the most magical balcony in all of Italy can be found at Villa Cimbrone. With Amalfi Coast views, and the most amazing vaulted arches, it proves the perfect backdrop for an elegant and wildly glamorous destination wedding like this gem. Designed by Ebb and Flow Events, with planning by Honey & Cinnamon, lush white and green florals by Mint Design and the dreamiest of stationery by Written Word Calligraphy, get lost in the beauty and drama of Rebecca Yale’s photographs. And be sure to sneak a peek at this couple’s equally breathtaking welcome dinner.

Glamorous

From the Photographer… Jenna and Shane were married on a beautiful Fall day surrounded by 24 of their closest friends and family at the historic Villa Cimbrone, an 11th Century Manor on the Amalfi Coast, in Ravello, Italy. The bride always dreamed of getting married by the sea and chose her sapphire engagement ring as the blue reminded her of the ocean, and of course of Princess Diana’s ring, which she was in love with as a child. The bride kept the styling for the day very classic and fashion forward choosing a simple white silk dress with leaf embroidery on the bodice and accessorizing both herself and her groom in touches of black velvet in both his and her shoes, the ring box, his jacket, and black velvet was later used in the ceremony seating and the runner on the wedding banquet table. The bridesmaids (the bride’s sister and best friend) both wore structural black gowns and the groomsmen wore black tux’s and black bowties, contrasting with the groom’s white tie. Lotta of Mint Design created a large oversized bouquet of green and white with trailing black ribbons for the bride and smaller versions for the two bridesmaids. The couple had their first look on the famous infinity terrace that overlooks the ocean followed by portraits around the property.

The ceremony took place under the vaulted arches of the Crypt while the bride’s childhood friend April Kry, just named one of Country Music’s top 5 rising artists, sang to them. Instead of a stage, Mint Design created a wild semi circle floral installation for April to perform in. Instead of traditional chairs the guests were made to feel cozy and intimate with black velvet couches and ottomans, which later doubled as lounge furniture during the reception. The aisle was lined with black candles in clear hurricanes and wrought-iron candelabras dripping in greenery, which also crept up the pillars. The bride and groom did not want a particularly religious service, but made it personalized by writing their own vows in Velvet Raptor vow books and by lighting three candles to represent the joining of their two souls, while also remaining strong independent people. The bride had promised her late grandfather a front row seat at her wedding years ago before she was even engaged, so to honor his memory and the memory of others they had lost, they left an empty seat for photographs wrapped in silk in the front row and light a candle during the ceremony in their memory. After the ceremony the bride and groom enjoyed a few moments alone to walk around the property and take in the magnificent sunset while guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with champagne and local hors d’curves typical of Ravello including mini jars of fresh octopus.

After sunset guests were welcomed back to the Crypt, which had been transformed into a romantic candlelight banquet dinner. A long black velvet runner ran the length of the table with cut crystal bud vases and tea light holders scattered in between oversized crystal candelabras and large marble vases overflowing with eucalyptus. Instead of escort cards the bride had Written Word Calligraphy create custom envelopes with each guests name written on them with the menu placed inside, which were placed over grey silk napkins on the table. The bride and groom sat in the middle of the table positioned so they could look out at the incredible view of the Amalfi cliffs and had the table set so no one was sitting directly across from them to give themselves an unobstructed view. For dessert guests enjoyed a buttercream cake and of course more limoncello and champagne. April sang the night away as guests danced into the wee hours of the morning.

6 Ways to Prepare Your Guests for Your Destination Wedding

Whether you’ve always pictured getting married in a remote, tropical locale or recently decided on a destination wedding, it’s important to make sure you and your guests are prepared before the big day. Here are six easy ways to ensure this is the trip of a lifetime for everyone involved!

Michelle Beckwith

Talk to your family and friends.
Once you have a date and location in mind talk to your parents, close friends and other family members to make sure they’re able to travel and attend. It’s especially important to consider your parent’s input if they’re helping pay for the wedding festivities.

Send out save the dates at least six months in advance.
This will give your guests time to plan for the trip and start searching for airfare. It’s okay if you don’t have all the details planned out yet as long as it clearly states the date and venue location. Add a sentence or two that lets your guests know further details will be sent to them or direct them to your wedding website for more information.

Give your guests several options for accommodations.
If you’re getting married at a hotel or resort, set up a room block on site – you can often negotiate this as part of your contract. Take into account your guest’s comfort levels and budgets and offer at least one or two additional lodging options. Use sites like Skipper to save money and simplify this process.  Make these options clear on your website and provide transportation at all locations to the wedding festivities making everyone feel included no matter which option they choose.

Update your website and use it as a mini guide book for your guests.
Include as much information as possible on your wedding website. Your guests will thank you and you’ll avoid lots of last minute phone calls about hotel information and restaurant recommendations. Some important things to include on your website: lodging (include any room blocks or group rate discount codes), closest airport, best ways to get around town, dress code information, your favorite restaurants and sightseeing locations.

Recognize that many guests will turn your wedding into their vacation.
Especially in the summer months and during holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day, your wedding guests are looking for any excuse to get out of the office and take a vacation. Lucky for them, you have chosen to host them in a beautiful destination! Whether it’s a city, the mountains or a tropical oasis, your guests are looking forward to this getaway. By keeping your website updated with things to do and places to go, they’ll be prepared for a fun trip and you won’t feel like you have to entertain them outside of the wedding weekend.

Welcome your guests.
Write a very detailed welcome letter greeting all of your guests once they arrive at your destination. If you’ve asked your guests to stay at the same 2-3 hotels, you’ll be able to leave these at the front desk or in each guest’s room. If you don’t know where everyone is staying, an email the week of the wedding will work. Include a detailed schedule of events, addresses and emergency phone numbers, wedding day contacts (wedding planner or venue coordinator) for urgent needs, transportation information and any other information you think is important. Stock their room with a few bottles of water, your favorite local snacks and a map or small guidebook of the city. This will make your guests feel extra special and let them know you appreciate them making the trip.

Jaw-Dropping Welcome Dinner on the Amalfi Coast

I’m pretty certain Jenna and Shane had the most epic welcome dinner any guest could ever hope to attend. Set on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the evening began with passed hors d’oeuvres and drinks under the olive groves, followed up by a cozy autumn meal enjoyed al fresco. Honey and Cinnamon planned this Italian soirée and Rebecca Yale photographed one amazing moment after another. Have a closer look inside the gallery and sit tight for the wedding reveal coming up this afternoon.

From Rebecca Yale… Jenna and Shane were married on a beautiful Fall day surrounded by 24 of their closest friends and family at the historic Villa Cimbrone, an 11th Century Manor on the Amalfi Coast, in Ravello, Italy. Their wedding celebration was a multi-day affair on the Amalfi Coast and kicked off with a welcome dinner at the Belmond Hotel Caruso. Guests were welcomed to their rooms with a welcome package featuring a program of the week’s activities in a wax sealed vellum envelope, fresh lemons and limoncello, which Ravello is famous for. Guests spent the day exploring the pedestrian only medieval town of Ravello and lounging by the hotel’s famous infinity pool followed by cocktail hour under a grove of olive trees and a dinner on the great lawn overlooking the cliffs of Amalfi as the sunset over the ocean turning the sky around them pink and yellow.

In typical Italian fashion, the best-laid plans went out the window and the original plan for the rehearsal dinner was to use all white marble plates and vessels, but with an Italian shipping error the shipment with the brides items ended up in Lake Como instead of the Amalfi Coast and the bride, who runs a destination weddings and events company, had to improvise along with the floral designer, Mint Design, to create a new tablescape for the welcome dinner. Thankfully the wonderful Federica of Honey and Cinnamon was able to track down the missing rentals and save the day getting them there in time for the wedding the next day!

The bride had brought over some of the essentials in her suitcases and they were able to create a stunning tablescape using autumnal florals and beautiful bottles of limoncello, which guests were able to keep at the end of the night as a favor. It was the perfect introduction to Ravello. Guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and a signature punch cocktail under the olive groves while being serenaded by a guitar player who had been flown in from Nashville to accompany singer, April Kry, the following evening at the wedding.
