A Strikingly Beautiful Gown Literally Made for the Bride

Get ready to pick your jaw up from the floor, because this Bride’s bespoke MXM Couture dress is that good. The intricate bodice, neckline, and sleeves paired with the light and airy train create an ethereal effect that set the tone for the entire, breathtaking wedding. Sally Pinera Photography captured this gorgeous Melbourne celebration – some of our favorite moments and details are below, but there’s so much more to see in the gallery.

I had the honor of meeting sweet Genesis and Tony in Melbourne, Australia for their beautiful celebration in Yarra Valley, the countryside of Australia. A bride with lovely style, Genesis wore a MXM couture gown with stunning details. For florals she had the ever so amazing Studio by Fleur create a neutral dream! Overflowing with fluffy whites and whimsical florals, the ceremony and reception was dreamy. I cannot thank Genesis and Tony enough for inviting me to document their love and sweet celebration amongst dear friends and family.

A Modern Elopement in Mexico Inspired by Luis Barragán’s Bold + Bright Architecture

Luis Barragan Inspiration

Are you familiar with the work of Luis Barragán? If so, you’re in for a treat (and even if you aren’t — you’re still in for a treat!) For those of you that aren’t, fear not! We’ll catch you up to speed. 🙂 Luis Barragán was a Mexican architect and engineer who excelled in combining architecture with landscape, and was revered for his creative use of geometric lines + brightly colored buildings (think hot pink and orange!). Famous for the quote, “I don’t divide architecture, landscape and gardening; to me they are one,” this was definitely evident in his work.

How to Enjoy Wedding Season— And Not Empty Your Bank Account!

It’s no secret that weddings cost money. But, witnessing your loved ones say their “I Do’s” is worth the hefty price tag. To help offset some of those costs, we’ve come up with the best ways to save—and where you should splurge—when attending a wedding.

Where to save:
Rent a dress
When attending weddings, there are often lots of pictures taken, causing us to always want something new. But instead of buying a brand new dress that you may only wear once, try renting one. With sites like renttherunway.com and stylelend.com, you can get gorgeous, designer dresses for so much less.

Ditch the room block
As a favor to their guests, couples will often block off a set of rooms under their name so people can easily book accommodations. But, while the room blocks can sometimes be the best route (many couples are able to snag awesome rates for these!), know that there are always other options. Research other hotels in the area or even try renting an AirBnB with other friends attending the wedding—it could save you tons and be a super fun solution.

Shop around
The same can be said for registries. If you see a gift on a couple’s registry site that you love, try searching for it somewhere else. Oftentimes, you’ll be able to find the item, or something similar, for a much lower price.
Plan Early
Once you get the save-the-date, start researching. Hotel rooms and airline flights are often much cheaper farther out, and if you start looking at gifts now, chances are something will go on sale before you need to buy it. The same can be said for dresses, suits and all the other things you’ll need for the wedding, too.

Where to splurge:
Gift nicely
As we said above, always shop around, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy something cheap. Here, it’s less about the money and more about the sentiment. If your friend or family member loves giraffes and you see awesome giraffe-shaped candle holders, get them. Or if you think they’ll love a DIY and you end up spending a bit more on supplies than you originally intended, know that their love for the gift will be worth it in the end.

Don’t skimp on the shoes
This one is so important! Weddings are all-day affairs and you’ll be walking around in those shoes for the entirety of it, not to mention dancing the night away. Get shoes that fit you perfectly and will keep your feet comfortable for hours. Just don’t forget to break them in before the wedding!

Stay a while
Attending a destination wedding? Or even a wedding an hour from your home? Try to make a vacation out of it and stay an extra day or two. Plan a romantic night out with your S.O. the day after the wedding or a fun day-trip with your girlfriends on your way home. Making the whole weekend feel more like a vacation will make the spending seem far more worth it.

Show support
This one doesn’t involve one cent. As cheesy as it may sound, the most important place to splurge is with your emotions. The money aspect can be stressful for guests, but just remember why you’re there and the special moment you are about to witness. Keep any money woes to yourself (or vent to friends—just leave the bride out of it!) and never skimp on love, hugs, and emotional support.

“Journey of a Lifetime” Travel Themed Bridal Shower

Our girl Shelby of Pretty in the Pines is officially a married lady (!!!) but before we get our hands on her wedding photos, we’re taking a moment to deep dive her travel-themed bridal shower. Take a peek at all the fun moments captured by Nancy Ray and read on for the details from Shelby.

Hi, SMP friends, Shelby here! I’m here today with some photos of a beautiful travel-themed bridal shower one of my Maid of Honors, Sara, hosted for me a few weeks ago. With the help of Lily and Oak and a few other talented Raleigh vendors, Sara hosted an adventurous soiree with some of my closest family and friends before I embark on the “journey of a lifetime”.

I was blown away by each little thoughtful and creative detail for this shower starting with the watercolored map invitations from One and Only Paper. When I first opened up the invitation envelope, I was in awe of the large watercolor map of the world that read “Love is the Greatest Adventure”. I knew then that this shower was going to be one for the books.

The space in the Mims House in Holly Springs, NC was the cutest blank slate to decorate with globes, vintage suitcases, books, old cameras, and other vintage furniture from Greenhouse Picker Sisters. Wild, organic, florals completed the look and brought a more earthy feel to the intimate white and gray space. One of my favorite parts of the party, as usual, was the global-inspired food setup featuring recipes from all over the world including a Mediterranean bar, Mexican appetizers, Southern cuisine, and Asian bites. There is never any shortage of creativity when it comes to Belle’s Catering and I had a hard time deciding between the Mini Taco Bowls, the Mini Pimento BLT Biscuits, the Ahi Tuna Bites, Shrimp Toast, Greek Flatbread, Mediterranean Cous Cous Cups, Mini Cuban Sliders, and the Chipotle Chicken Meatballs so I just filled my plate up with it all!

The shower was in the late morning/early afternoon so there was a coffee and mimosa bar setup when guests arrive and the “food room” was topped off with calligraphy chalkboard signs created by one of my sweet bridesmaids, Meredith, who owns Oaks and Gray Paper. Always thankful for a bridesmaid that also doubles as a wedding vendor!

As we ate the almost-too-pretty-to-eat vintage map cake, we caught up with friends and family, played some funny bridal shower games, opened up gifts, and sipped on mimosas!

These little celebrations along the way leading up to our wedding day have been so special. There is nothing like having a large group of your favorite people all together in one room so I can only imagine how the wedding will feel. If you’re a bride-to-be, my advice to you would be to slow down and soak in each moment you get to celebrate with your family and friends along the way. It is such a special and unique time in life and it passes by so fast.

Thanks for following along and I can’t wait to reveal our wedding photos soon!

Love,
Shelby
